Upcoming Events – Tournaments and Challenges

Greetings CCPC members!

The calendar for competitions is about to start heating up!

Feb. 22nd – another monthly Atlanta Petanque League (APL) Challenge at the Hanover West courts (Atlanta) at 9:30am.   This one may only have space for a few of our players.   Email me directly if you’re interested.

March 1st – there are 5 of us going to play in a triples tournament in Sanford, FL.   1 women’s team and 1 men’s team (we’re taking Dennis Hammond as a guest)

March 21st – the March APL monthly challenge comes to Lay Park!   That’s right, APL is bringing their monthly challenge to our house!   This one will start about 10:30am – have a picnic lunch break – resume after lunch.   The cost is $10 to enter and there is a cash payout for the top 3 teams.   I don’t know yet if this is going to be a doubles or a triples event – probably doubles as we’ll divide our courts so that we can have room for 16 teams.

This is HUGE!  We want to have a great turnout from our club.  I’m hoping we can have at least 8 teams.   Please try to make this one – I think you’ll enjoy the format and the APL folks are really fun to play with.  (This one doesn’t require FPUSA membership.)

April 18-19 – APL “April Boules” Doubles tournament.   Saturday is an Open; Sunday is a FPUSA Regional.    We should all do our best to support this great event put on by our good friends at APL!   I’m hoping we’ll have several teams entered this year.   Remember that you don’t have to be a FPUSA member to play Saturday’s tournament.   Sunday is a FPUSA tournament – completely separate from the Saturday Open.   I hope we have lots of CCPC participation on both days.

April 26th – Carolina Petanque hosts a FPUSA Regional Triples tournament in Asheville.   It’s a great place to play!  More on that later…

Remember this always:   Whether or not you choose to enter a competition, everyone is always welcome at Classic City Petanque!   Our members who are competing love having you play with them and against them as they prepare for the upcoming events!

Finally, for more info about what it’s like to enter and play in a tournament or what the terrains are like in the tournament locations, just ask us.   CCPC members who have competed on many of these terrains and at several tournaments include:

Al, Heidi, Rob, Allen, Frank, and Sally.   Gail and Diane are heading into their first FPUSA tournaments and they can tell you their experiences after March 1st.   Our affiliate members, Honor, Gary, and Dennis have lots of tournament experience.  We are all happy to share our experiences!

Ask me anything!
