Drawing and creating art are akin to playing Pétanque —both involve a blend of skill, spontaneity, and an appreciation for the unexpected. As a Pétanque player, the thrill of fortuitous outcomes is a highlight. These “happy accidents”—moments when we score in an entirely unplanned manner—are what make the game exhilarating. They remind us that not everything can be controlled, and often, it’s the unpredictability that brings the most joy. Similarly, in the realm of art, the creative process is filled with moments of serendipity often growing out of efforts to resolve problems of perspective forcing us to broaden our scope and focus on the solution, not the problem. I create most of my art using a smart phone and a personal computer (PC) for photography, videos, and graphic arts. When an image intrigues or inspires me, I’ll try to do something more with it. I drew these Pétanque pictures on my PC using Adobe Illustrator 10, a vector-based design software used for creating drawings, illustrations, and artwork. – Rob Trevena
